Cabbage Rolls

CABBAGE ROLLS. Yes, I'm a grandma... but they're great and low-carb!

YOU NEED:

1 medium cabbage

FILLING
1 lb ground beef
2 teaspoons chopped onions
1 teaspoon salt
 1 beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup cooked rice
2 cloves minced garlic
ground black pepper
herbs such as parsley or basil

SAUCE
1 (14 ounce) can tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt, Pepper, to taste
Garlic to taste
mushrooms, onions, basil, red bell peppers optional

DIRECTIONS:
1 Peel cabbage leaves, boil for 5 minutes until pliable. Drain and cool a little.
2 Combine ingredients for filling.
3 Place some of this mixture (about 1 1/2 tbsps) on each cabbage leaf & fold "envelope" fashion.
4 Lay flap side down in a paper-coated pan.
5 Combine sauce ingredients,  pour over cabbage rolls.
7 Bake at 350 degrees F for about an hour.

DRESS IT UP?
CHEESY MEXICAN CABBAGE ROLLS: with salsa instead of tomato sauce, and pimento or monterey jack cheese, and sour cream.
SPICY CABBAGE ROLLS: add hot sauce to the tomato sauce, and peppers to the meat.
ITALIAN SAUSAGE CABBAGE ROLLS: use italian sausage instead of ground beef.

CREAM SAUCE: make a delicious cream sauce [also goes with cream of mushroom soup, plain and simple] instead of tomato sauce
GREEK CABBAGE ROLLS: add feta to the mix. top with a lemony, peppery, garlicky cream sauce.

* NOTE:
you can use beef, chicken, pork, turkey, a mix of all, or just extra veggies, doesn't matter.
ALSO.... it's about as versatile as pasta! be creative.

AND LASTLY... i don't have a picture yet because this is new; what I'm making tonight. BUT: CAPRESE CABBAGE ROLLS: topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, parmesan, and fresh basil.
